Dr. Nicholas Dantzker has wanted to be an orthopaedic surgeon since he was 15 years old. He was an avid athlete growing up, playing soccer and basketball year-round as a child and teenager and going on to play rugby in college. Through his various injuries, he had many interactions with orthopaedic surgeons and was fascinated by their knowledge and expertise. Of equal importance, his family ingrained certain core values in him from a young age, most importantly, the belief that complete devotion to a worthy vocation, one that enriches the lives of others, is fundamental to a life well-lived. As he continued his training as an orthopedic surgery resident at Vanderbilt University, he became further fascinated by the sub-specialty of shoulder, elbow, and sports medicine, leading him to complete a fellowship in sports medicine at the Columbia University Center for Shoulder, Elbow, and Sports Medicine in New York City.
During his fellowship, Dr. Dantzker served as team physician for Columbia University, Fordham University, the New York City Football Club (Major League Soccer), and helped care for the New York Yankees. He is the recipient of multiple research grants, and the author of both peer-reviewed research publications and book chapters.
His greatest satisfaction comes from his interaction with his patients. Although he loves the intellectual and professional challenges of his work, that effort is only made worthwhile by the patients’ whose lives are improved because of it.
After work, you can find Dr. Dantzker playing sports (soccer and basketball), hiking, snowboarding, being outdoors with his dogs and wife, doing water sports, or reading.
Dr. Dantzker is married, and the proud father of two coonhound mix dogs.
