I had my total shoulder replacement almost 4 weeks ago and I'm so amazed as to my mobility. Yes, while I think that I can do things that I was able to do 10 years ago I must remember I need to take these steps slowly so I don't overdue anything. It is a long process that needs to be taken in baby steps so not to disrupt the healing process. Dr. Spencer's accuracy and precision work has all the joints lined up so perfectly, it is as if they were the ones that I was born with. The arthritis in my right shoulder began around 2012 and because of horror stories that I've heard over the years regarding lack of usage after the surgery, I was very concerned about having a total shoulder replacement. At that time, I had resigned myself to dealing with the debilitation of the right shoulder and the constant pain. Since I had moved from up North a couple of years ago and the pain became more intense, I had decided to rekindle my investigating alternatives and doctors that I felt I could trust to do the job that I needed to be able to do ordinary things such as comb my hair with my right hand and wash my face with both hands without experiencing pain. After a very extensive investigation about doctors and procedures dealing with total shoulder replacement, I found the right team: Dr. Edwin Spencer and his assistant Jeff Jarnagin, PA from KOC. I couldn't have chosen a more professional, superbly dedicated and impeccable team to perform this monumental procedure that I so desperately needed. They work as though they actually know exactly what the other person is thinking. Only 10 years into Dr. Spencer's career, he was named one of the top 28 shoulder surgeons in the USA and still today he hasn't let any grass grow under his feet. He continues his research into many areas of this field, as well as in the pioneering of new procedures and techniques for all patients. Dr. Spencer, you are just amazing and your assistant Jeff Jarnagin is fantastic as well. You are a unbelievable team that fit together as one and I'm so thankful that I met up with you. I can't thank you enough for what you've done for me.
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can live without pain. I had a pinched nerve in my cervical spine. I was in severe pain. The fusion operation was very successful. I would have had it much sooner if I had known that it was going to go so well! I was only in the hospital overnight. Dr. Madigan fused together 2 discs. The pain was relieved immediately. My recovery time was minimal. I only missed 3 weeks of work. I am very grateful to Dr. Madigan.
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can continue enjoying the activities I love. I put off knee replacements for years, thinking it would not benefit me at my age (73). I can not thank Dr. Nadaud and his staff enough for what they have given back to me. After my visit with Dr. Nadaud and all his encouragement, I had both knees done July 1st 2019. 13 weeks later, I was on a flowrider (surfing), and have plans to be back on the snow (snowboarding) this winter. It was my idea for many years; if I have knee replacements, they will not support any extreme activities. If you are one who has the same fears, talk to Dr Nadaud. All I can say is THANK YOU!!!!!
My trimalleolar ankle break in May 2019 was gruesome looking. I have the greatest respect for my surgeon, Dr. Robert Smith. Owing to excellent service in LaFollette and Knoxville, he operated on me just two days later, at the end of a long day in surgery. I knew he had pressed together the three breaks in my ankle to fit precisely in the same places as before the break, because there was no pain when I woke up the next morning! I never took a single pain pill. That's precise surgery! Dr. Smith was also friendly and businesslike in subsequent check-ups. KOC was also professional from paperwork at the counters, right up through nurses and x-ray technicians. Knoxville definitely has an outstanding facility in KOC and Dr. Robert Smith.
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can live a normal and active lifestyle. I tore my quadricep in a Spartan Race and Dr. Smith was able to completely repair my leg. The rehab process was lengthy but now I exercise and live a very active lifestyle. I really appreciate the care that I received from Dr. Smith and his team at KOC.
Even though Dr. John Crawford is an orthopedic surgeon, he specializes in matters of the heart. Almost two decades ago, he repaired our daughter’s ACL injury. She had never had surgery before, so he mended her knee while practically holding our hands. We were shocked when she called us from inside the surgical room ON HIS PERSONAL CELL PHONE. It sounded like there was a party going on in the background, and we breathed a sigh of relief. She hasn’t had a knee problem since. Fourteen years ago, our daughter suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and although she didn’t have a single broken bone, Dr. Crawford helped us evaluate her paralyzed and postured left arm, gently guiding us through safe stretches to regain her mobility. She is thirty-three now, married, and she is a mommy to two of the cutest little boys in the whole world. She still struggles with short term memory, but her mobility has long since returned in her arm. While it’s true Dr. Crawford is a top orthopedic surgeon, I bet you didn’t know how much he knows about hearts.
Dr. Mathien is a very caring and listens to you and gives detailed feedback and answers your questions. Great surgeon who has practiced for many years and has tons of knowledge I couldn't be happier with him and his nursing staff. I hurt my knee after surgery and they were quick to get me back in to see him.
My son Austin is talented in basketball. I am so glad I took the recommendations to take him to Dr. Rappé. He did an amazing job fixing his ACL and meniscus. He is now on his journey to full recovery. He was dunking the day after being cleared. It wasn't his prettiest dunk, but that is amazing after just a day. We have had a great experience with all KOC doctors. I just have to give a extra shout out to Dr. Rappé. He makes you feel confident and he is very sagacious on the knee area. I am so blessed that my son was in great hands. He took great care of him and you never forget that. He is now getting back to starting to play ball. I would recommend Dr. Rappé to anyone and especially his expertise of the knee area. I feel my son can get to the next level after being in such great hands! Thank you Dr. Rappé!
Thanks to my care at KOC, I am able to exercise without pain in my hips. Dr. Benson Scott’s superb bedside manner made me feel at ease with the procedure. He explained exactly what he was going to do and afterwards told me exactly what to do and not to do for the injection to be successful. I highly recommend Dr. Benson Scott for any of your arthritis problems!
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can enjoy life again and work without pain. Its been 7 weeks after my surgery and I have less pain than before surgery. My leg is straight now and aligned like it is supposed to be. Dr. Botero was great. You can see the passion in his eyes when he is speaking to you. He has a caring heart. I have been blessed with his care and The good Lord's guidance leading me to Dr. Botero. I highly recommend him. I did research looking for good reviews near me. So thankful!
I went to the VA in 2016 at the age of 74 and found that my right shoulder was bone on bone. I could live with it, but for how long. I received steroid shots for a year and a half and decided it was time to do more. Due to a previous talk with another doctor about Dr. Spencer, and the help from the VA, I chose KOC for my next step. I had a total shoulder replacement on Dec. 6th. So far this was the best choice I ever made. Because of the professional service and information I received from Dr. Spencer and his team, I have been pain free the entire time. I receive physical therapy every week and am told I am in the 98% group of my recovery and it's only been 5 weeks. I suggest to anyone thinking of joint replacement to check with KOC and see what they can do for you.
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can now resume my normal activities around my home, church and community. I do spend sufficient time on ladders and now I can do this again without a lot of pain. Dr. Botero spent a lot of time with me explaining what was going on in my hip, when I would need replacement, what the replacement procedure entailed, what I could do after surgery, what the recovery would be like. I had the surgery and things went great for the first week and then I got an inflammation in one of the muscles. He and his staff quickly attended to the problem and now six weeks after surgery, I am doing great. I have also had a knee replacement by him and everything went great.
