Thanks to my care at KOC, I can get around much better. Dr. Botero ordered an injection in my left hip area, I believe for bursitis. I have had horrific pain in that area for nearly a year. The nurse said it would take a week or so to really help. Well, the second day I am pain free in that area! I give praise to GOD for sending me to the right doctor. Thanks so much, Dr. Botero. My best to you and KOC.
Thanks to my knee replacement with Dr. Becker, I can now walk and play with my grandchildren and work again! 14 weeks after surgery and I feel great! Knee is a little stiff and still hurts at times, but it's so much better than before!!
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can play soccer again! Dr. Betcher and Dr. Rappe were amazing and helped get me back on the field in 6 months. I was 9 years old when I had to have my ACL and meniscus repaired, and I just wanted to go back to being a kid again. Thank you!
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can walk better and have gotten the pain relief I was needing. Dr. Paul Johnson is an excellent doctor who explained in great detail everything that was going to take place during surgery and what would take place after surgery. I am lucky to have had such a great doctor do my back surgery.
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can do anything! It's been nearly a year since my partial knee replacement with Dr. Nadaud. For the past 7 months I have been biking up to 25 miles, hiking in the Smokies, and recently running a few miles on the treadmill.
I had total knee replacement in 2007 -- thank you, Dr. Beeler! That was such a dramatic change in my life. Instead of hurting, dreading to even go to the grocery store, or climb the stairs at my house, I renewed my interest in outdoor activities. I've walked half marathons, hiked hundreds of miles in the Smokies and Cherokee Forest, and in October 2016, I summited Mount Kilimanjaro. My knee is pain free and, at age 66, I'm looking forward to my next adventure!
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can live a normal life. I am very blessed! At the age of 13, I was diagnosed with severe scoliosis. I had a 78 degree curve and it eventually would have caused me many problems. I was at first very frightened, as any 13-year-old would be, at the thought of a major surgery. The moment I met Dr. Robert Madigan, my fears were immediately gone and I felt I was in the best hands possible. He was so kind to me and explained everything to me that was going to happen. One month later on January 19,1978, Dr. Madigan and a team of other physicians operated and fused my spine. One week later, I was placed in a plaster cast which was worn worn for 9 months (this was 1978)!! A few days later I went home. According to Dr. Madigan, I did exceptionally well and surpassed his expectations, as far as how soon I healed and would be released from the hospital. They had homeschooling set up for me. Three weeks later, I was back at my middle school with my friends!! I'm not going to say it was easy, because it was really tough at times. KOC was also wonderful to me. I graduated from high school. My husband and I have celebrated 33 years of marriage. I went to work for State Farm Insurance and I am the mother of three daughters and a son. I have three beautiful granddaughters as well. I am now a full time wife, mom and nana. I have to say with God by my side and many prayers and the best surgeon in Knoxville, Dr. Robert Madigan, I am truly one blessed woman. I truly believe Dr. Madigan saved my life and I am so thankful to him and his wonderful care. I've even had to call him on a few occasions since then and he has been so quick and courteous to answer my calls and give me advice. I would never have imagined in my worst nightmare that I would have scoliosis and a spinal fusion, but I am thankful because it brought such a talented, skilled and wonderful physician who truly cared into my life. Thank You, Dr.Madigan.
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can now get out of the house and not be in pain all the time. I can look forward to the future and enjoying life again.
At my first visit I knew I had come to the right place. Not only did I feel comfortable with my doctor, I felt like he cared about me. He explained my condition, his recommendation for treatment and how this would help me. His bedside manner was what I needed to get me through since my condition was not only causing pain but bringing me down fast. I will go back for any back or neck problems I have and most definitely will ask for Dr. Johnson. I want to say all the staff at KOC treated me with respect and caring. THANK YOU Dr. Johnson for your care, compassion and overall personality. All of these things came together to provide me with the BEST care I could get!
When I was 21, a drunk driver hit my dad and I head on in an automobile accident. I had emergency surgery to fix a broken hip. It was put back together with 4 pins, but I was told that one day in the future it would probably need to be replaced. Thanks to the good Lord, I was able to use that hip for 30 more years. However, this last spring, I knew that my hip was nearing the end of its usefulness. My mobility had reached an all time low, and since I teach 5th grade, I knew I needed to have it fixed. My family doctor requested I see someone at KOC, and after finding out that Dr. Botero specializes in the anterior approach, I made an appointment to go see him. Meanwhile I studied the procedure and everything I could find about him. After meeting him for the first time, I knew he was the one I wanted to perform my surgery. He spent so much time answering my questions and explaining what he would be able to do and what he wouldn't be able to do with my hip considering the previous trauma 30 years ago. Although he does the anterior approach, he said he wouldn't consider it for my situation due to my previous posterior surgery when I was only 21. He wanted to go in the same route so as not to leave my body with yet another entry scar and trauma. I trusted him, and knew he'd make the best possible decisions while performing my posterior total right hip replacement.
My husband and I read the procedure booklet and highlighted specific information, attended the classes, and followed all the directions while preparing for my November 21st surgery. Dr. Botero had already assured me that I'd probably do very well considering my size and age. (I turned 51 four days following my surgery.)
I was ready, and finally the day arrived. I went to the hospital early, and was wheeled into surgery less than 2 hours after arriving. Once I finally awoke from the surgery, it was time to get up and walk with assistance to the chair beside my hospital bed. Amazing!
My surgery was Monday, I went home on Tuesday, and by Wednesday my whole family was amazed at how well I was doing. Thanksgiving was Thursday, and I was able to enjoy it with my family at my mom and dad's home. I attended church that Sunday, and one of my friends in Sunday school thought my surgery was coming up, but I assured him that it had already taken place 6 days ago.
I'm three weeks out now, my incision has healed, there is no pain, and I'll be heading back to school following the Christmas break.
I want to thank all the wonderful nurses for their excellent care and a big thanks to Dr. Botero for fixing me up so that I can continue enjoying an active life. You've been an answer to prayers!
I just had bicep tenodesis surgery by Dr. Edwin Spencer at the Knoxville Orthopaedic Surgery Center. I can't express myself enough about the courteous staff and the doctor. I have had many surgeries and by far this has been my best experience in the way they treated me and my family. I traveled from Kingsport to have Dr. Spencer treat me and from my experience, I would recommend everyone with orthopaedic issues travel to KOC. They are truly the best around.
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can return to my favorite pastime of working on antique cars and spending time with my family. I was also able to return to my life as it was before my knees were "bone on bone." Working in my church, going to the grocery store, and attending family outings were virtually impossible. The pain was paralyzing and my quality of life was poor. In July 2015, I had my right knee replaced. Six weeks later, I had my left knee replaced. Dr. Botero performed minimally invasive surgery on my knees and six weeks after my second surgery I was getting back to normal. I was able to attend church where I take care of the sound system. Climbing two flights of stairs to get to the sound booth was no longer painful or difficult. Everyone marveled at my mobility in such a short time. I am so thankful that my wife researched new procedures for knee replacements and found Dr. Botero's minimally invasive knee replacement. The new procedure put me back to my normal routine in no time! Dr. Botero is fantastic. He is a brilliant surgeon. He is also very kind, caring, and could not have improved my treatment and care in any way. I am so thankful that Dr. Botero performed my knee replacements as I have no pain in my knees! He is the BEST! If you are facing knee replacement, do yourself a big favor and choose Dr. Botero. It will be the best decision you'll ever make.
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can do the things I love to do without pain from my shoulder, neck and arm. I can visit with my family and friends, cook, and enjoy my later years free from pain. I first saw Dr. Maguire in 2004 after a three week span in terrible pain. A co-worker shared her story with Dr. Maguire and suggested I visit him. That was the best advice I received. Dr. Maguire ordered x-rays, therapy and then an MRI. I had a disc already ruptured. He performed surgery and immediately I had no pain. I have since had surgery on other discs, which a car accident may have contributed. I would and have recommended Dr. Maguire to other friends. I trust his care completely and would not think of going to another doctor if needed. His knowledge, compassion and care is truly outstanding.
