Patient Testimonials

I had visited three other spine specialists who had not been able to relieve my pain. None had suggested surgery, perhaps because of my age (73), but Dr. Luke Madigan was a very caring doctor who showed no hesitation in explaining the surgery thoroughly, both pros and cons, and recommending that I have it and carried it through with great success. Very, very happy with his work and I would recommend him highly and KOC in general. KOC doctors have performed knee replacement on both my knees, saved the use of my husband's hand when he cut tendons, and helped him through a broken ankle. Where would we be without all of you?

I feel I must start with a little history about my condition...Previous Doctors I saw before Dr. Paul Johnson, tried to treat me with therapy and when I complained that is was getting worse each time I went, all complaints were not handled correctly. I was not given an x-ray until the last visit with those Drs. and was informed that they were too foggy and couldn't get a good look. As previously stated, they sent me back to therapy with no good results...I was steadily getting worse. At the request of my employer, I chose Dr. Johnson and I could not be more pleased. This man encountered a very angry woman who had been in severe pain for much too long. He got x-rays, set up for me to try a shot, got that, it didn't help. He, at that point scheduled surgery on my cervical spine C5-C6-C7. Dr. Johnson told me what he was going to do and what it would help. This man hit the nail on the head. He is one awesome Dr and I would highly recommend his services. He cares deeply for his patients and it shows in the care he gives us. I carry the utmost respect for this man because he is the reason I can enjoy my grandchildren. I can now move my neck and I am able to turn in both directions. The nerves were fixed and that awful tingling is gone.

Thanks to my care at KOC, I can... hike to the top of Mt Leconte on the longest, hardest trail! 17 miles! Since Dr. Betcher released me in November of 2013 I have hiked 600 Miles in the Smoky Mountains, working towards my goal of hiking every trail in the Smokies! Thank you Dr. Betcher and team!

Since my Cervical Spine procedure, I can go through my normal daily routine without pain. I have suffered for many years with migraine headaches, missing out on activities with my family because of the pain. Since my procedure I have not had a migraine (or even a common headache). This is like a miracle for me as medication always left me in a fog. I can walk farther without pain, have more energy, just over all feel better.
Dr. Luke Madigan sat down with me prior to the scheduling this procedure, explained the surgery, recovery time, common side effects, pain management, and overall what to expect. He did not leave the room until he was sure my questions were answered. He reviewed my films with me pre- and post-op. He made sure I understood the procedure which is a comfort to me. I have been a Nurse for over 25 years and he still took the time to explain, ask my input, giving me a voice in my care. He addresses concerns and questions during follow up.

It was my daughter's junior year in high school. She was the post player on her varsity basketball team. As she and other players were going up for a rebound, she got pulled down by another player and fell on the ground. After seeing her limp off the court, I knew we needed to get her knee looked at. We went to the +4 KOC injury clinic and the PA that we saw thought it was a torn ACL. Soon after, the MRI confirmed the diagnosis and she was facing surgery with Dr. Becker. After discussing options with him (either her own tendon or a donor tendon) I asked him if this had happened to his daughter which one would he recommend. He emphatically said the donor tendon. Surgery was scheduled during her Spring Break. We were so appreciative of the care that Dr. Becker provided, and rehab was so much faster since she had the donor tendon. Thank you Dr. Becker for taking such good care of her! She is in her 3rd year of college and participating in many intramural sports and activities! Thanks to KOC, I can continue to watch my daughter lead an active lifestyle participating in sports and exercise!

I had a "bone on bone" hip joint with no remaining cartilage, and the beginnings of a stress fracture. On Monday, August 10th I had full hip replacement surgery, seven days later, on Monday, August 17th, I put in a full eight hour day in the office at work.

Dr. Botero listens carefully and takes as much time as the patient needs for questions and answers. He uses the most advanced technique for joint replacement called "anterior approach," which means only a 3.5" incision on the side of the hip (which in my case left virtually no scar), compared to the posterior approach of 7.0+". This seems to significantly reduce healing time and post-surgical discomfort. Dr. Herman Botero is very personable, very professional, and very distinguished in his demeanor. All in all, it was an outstanding experience!

Even the physical therapy at KOC was terrific, thanks to very professional and patient staff therapists Traci and Candace.
