Patient Testimonials

My son broke his hand playing baseball in April 2018. After a consultation at KOC he needed surgery. We scheduled his surgery with Dr. Calhoun and did not meet him until the day of surgery. As a mom of a 15-year-old boy, I was nervous. Dr. Calhoun met with us before surgery and explained the procedure to us. He put 2 pins and 3 screws into my son's hand. He was very humble and said “I am just a carpenter.” Every single office visit after surgery he was very patient and answered every question we had. I am so grateful for the care we received from KOC and Dr. Calhoun. My son is playing high school basketball this fall and cannot wait to get back out onto the baseball field next spring!

After a partial knee replacement in Sept. 2017 I am back on the slopes! Thank you Dr. Nadaud, Dr. Betcher and the KOC joint replacement team!!
– Robin, Maryville
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can actually sit in a chair without excruciating nerve pain. I am able to play in the yard with my girls and get around to enjoy the simple things in life that I could not before. Prior to my operation, I had tried every imaginable technique to prevent back pain but none were an effective solution. Although it is not a cure-all, the procedure I had for my lower back has improved my mobility and quality of life significantly and I could not be more excited!

Thanks to my care at KOC, I can say I am experiencing full use of my right knee after knee replacement surgery in February of 2019. I had troubles with both knees as much of the cartilage was gone in both. I opted finally after years of cortisone shots to get a knee replacement in (1) knee only. I started cortisone shots in both knees about (6) years ago in Michigan and they worked for me from day one. However, knowing I was getting older and knowing that my knees could only get worse I chose reluctantly to get my right knee replaced. The recovery was tough but I got through it, and have now decided to get the left knee done. I notice the difference between them and know if I let it go it will only get worse and eventually throw off the replaced knee. Every time I have come in Dr. Becker and his staff have treated me with respect and efficiently, and I am forever grateful for their services and expertise. I came to know Dr. Becker as he did surgery on my grandson's calf, damaged in a football game as he was a player on the Farragut team. He did a great job for him and I knew he would do the same for me.

Fourteen years after total knee replacement on both of my knees, I can do cross fitness training. I am 62 years old, but I am often training with guys in their 20s. My awesome KOC doc, Brian Covino, M.D., suggested that I avoid moguls when I go skiing with my son and, I admit, I have avoided his suggestion. The knees are holding up great. I have been hiking on hundreds of trails in the Smokies and Cherokee National Forest. I have always loved hiking but had to give that up until I had the knee replacement surgery. The physical rehab after the operation needs to be taken seriously. The temporary pain of the rehabilitation pays off on improving flexibility and strength. I have put these knees to the test and plan to continue to do so. I can't wait for those discount rates for skiing when I become an official senior citizen.

Thanks to my outpatient total knee replacement just 8 weeks ago with Dr. Nadaud at Knoxville Orthopaedic Surgery Center, I'm already able to work on my garden. I'm also excited about fishing and hunting season this year, as I wasn't able to go much last year due to my pain.

Soon after my hip replacement, I committed to a 28.3 mile hike for CureSearch (it turned out to be closer to 32 miles). Over the course of the 4 months following surgery I began walking and hiking and ended up with 360 training miles logged during that time. Early on November 10th we began our hike in honor and memory of all the kids. Our hike was on the Foothills Trail-we started in NC and ended in SC. It was an amazing experience and I felt truly blessed to be able to participate. My hip did amazing! Thanks to Dr. Botero for being a wonderful surgeon! #CureSearch-Telling Children's Cancer to Take a Hike!

Thanks to my care at KOC, I can walk straight without leaning forward. I was scared to death about having hip surgery...then I met Dr. Botero. He and his staff are awesome. Everyone was so kind, patient, knowledgeable...and they made me feel special. The experience from start to finish went so smoothly, (I just did water aerobics for the first time in years!) I'm almost looking forward to having my second hip done (almost). I am looking forward to being a whole new person in only a few months.
Before my surgery, I was not able to stand up straight and every time I walked, I was in pain. During my consultation, Dr. Botoro explained to me why I was in pain and also why I was bent over and explained how surgery would change my posture and gait. He even took the time to show me my x-rays as an illustration.
I was still skeptical, but everything Dr. Botero had told me - well, I have to admit, it turned out to be soooo true. The very same day of my surgery, I was able to walk down the hall - standing up straight for the first time in at least a decade...it was so exciting! Before I knew it, I was off the pain medications and shortly thereafter released from physical therapy and Dr. Botero released me without any restrictions.
I can't say thank you enough to Dr. Botero and his team. Thank you for giving me more than I ever expected.

Thanks to my son's care at KOC, I can rest easy knowing he is taken great care of. Dr. Gaylord will not preform unnecessary surgeries or procedures. He is awesome with Carson, who has cerebral palsy. Carson loves him.
– Carson, Maryville
Thanks to Dr. Sears and my care at KOC, I can do everything I love now. The scoliosis surgery I received in 2012 was a life changer for me. The surgery helped me in so many ways. I can do everything I love now without worrying about hurting myself or pain.
– Olyvia, Sneedville
Thanks to my hip replacement with Dr. Nadaud, I am back on the tennis court, golf course and trail riding with my wife. Life is great.
– Arthur, Crossville
Thanks to my care at KOC, I can move around so much better. Dr. Nadaud was a little skeptical because I have RA & Lupus, that would make it harder to do. Right knee was done in 2015, no problem and I was nervous. This TEAM sure put me at ease. Turned out great. Then in 2017 I had the second knee replaced, I did super. Just had my right hip replaced and my RA is worse so I dreaded this so bad. Went through it with a breeze. I love being able to talk with his nurse or NP. They are a great team to work with. I strongly recommend. I felt great each time I left and well prepared for surgery and recovery.
