Is There an Alternative to the ER?

Is There an Alternative to the ER?

Jan 25, 2017

A trip to the emergency room is never fun. It’s usually expensive and time-consuming, but do you really have a choice? Sometimes, thankfully, the answer is yes. Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic offers an after-hours injury clinic four days a week at two different locations.

“We wish our kids never got hurt, but childhood injuries are a part of life,” says Dr. Cameron Sears, a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at KOC and father of three. “And they can happen at any time, often when your doctor’s office is closed. That’s why we offer our +4 Injury Clinic – open an extra four hours a day, four days a week.”

For bone and joint-related injuries, the KOC +4 Injury Clinic may offer a shorter wait time and lower cost than a traditional ER visit. The injury clinic is always staffed with highly-trained orthopaedic specialists who diagnose and treat these types of injuries every day. That’s something you won’t find at a general urgent care center.

“We treat people of all ages at our injury clinic, from a high school football player hurt at practice to an adult who’s fallen and broken a bone,” says Dr. Robert Smith, a Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic sports medicine surgeon and father of four very active boys. “We do x-rays and casts onsite, even stitches. And if needed, we’ll schedule your follow-up appointment before you leave.”

The KOC +4 Injury Clinic can be a great option for fractures, strains, sprains, torn ligaments or tendons, and minor dislocations. You don’t need an appointment, and most major insurance is accepted. And no emergency room copay!
